About
O₂ Academy Islington

O2 Academy Islington is situated in the heart of fashionable N1, North London, a 17,000 square foot purpose built venue, with a capacity of 800. O2 Academy Islington fits perfectly alongside flagship South London venue; O2 Academy Brixton (capacity 4,921) and the historic O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire (capacity 2,000) in West London.

O2 Academy Islington was formerly The Marquee Club and is situated in the N1 Centre.

This purpose-built, digitally enabled live music venue ensures a superb diary all year round from internationally acclaimed artists and new talent. The venue is also the host of Jar Music Group's "Plug'd In" showcase held twice yearly in collaboration with some of the UK's biggest media, press and industry partners. The event has been acclaimed as one of the most successful showcases because of its unrivalled effectiveness for launching bands into the market.

The venue opened on Friday 19th September 2003 with US rockers Alkaline Trio, and was immediately followed by a staggering and diverse diary including Muse, The Cure, Paramore, Feeder and The Zutons – but to mention a few.

In May-June 2008, O2 Academy Islington hosted 20 Sparks gigs, a unique concept of performing virtually all of the band's albums. In November 2004, was the chosen venue for Eminem's only European date of the year and in 2008, the mighty Def Leppard performed an exclusive show.

Continuing this tradition, the 02 Academy Islington hosted Kiss who performed a press and media pre-tour warm up on the 23rd February 2010.
